Another day for L.A. photographer Gary Leonard in tracking L.A. history with his camera lenses.
He emailed this yesterday:  "Today, August 3rd, is the 250th Anniversary.  The Portolá Expedition came upon the LaBrea Tar Pits.  It's all written down in the Father
Crespí diary."

[Update 8/8/2019]
Gary wrote on August 7th, "250 years ago today The Portolá Expedition left Encino after camping there for two nights."

Then he added, "Seemed appropriate to mark the occasion by getting gas at the same location where they departed 250 years ago today."
